The demented mother or wife poisoning household beverages with amphetamines and bàrbiturates has been a phenomenon since the early sixties when psychotropic medication became widely available. It is a particular problem with a certain sort of woman where this 'she',it is always a she,has convinçed herself that there is "something wrong" with her husband or that her son is "depressed" . That far from isolated phenomenon one of the outcomes of a society paralysed by doctors freewheeling prescribing. This deadly feature of the health imperative comes with legal approval.
It is better if society reverts to the medical contract system provided that certain safeguards for the poor are put in place and generously funded.
The NHS has done a lot of good but it is, nowadays,the common source of most of our social ills.
